CAROL OWEN MBE BA Hons Cert. Ed.
Carol Owen has a BA Hons in Painting, and a Certificate in Education with Distinctions in both the theory and practice of teaching. When she lived in the Cayman Islands, as wife of the Governor, she became a driving force in the creation of a National Gallery for the Islands, was its principal fundraiser, and became its first chairman. She remains a trustee.
A former portrait painter whose official sitters include HRH Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, Carol has now turned her attention mainly to painting landscapes and cityscapes. She works in oils, both on location and in the studio, and has a solo exhibition in Central London every two years.
Carol was the winner of the 2019 PAINT LIVE competition run by the Royal Institute of Oil Painters based at Mall Galleries in London. She exhibits annually with the Royal Society of Marine Artists at Mall Galleries.
“Welcome to my website. I’m Carol, and I’ve been painting since I was a child. I’ve painted in lots of places, including on a remote Scottish island, in bustling London streets, and in a private suite in Buckingham Palace. After I left college, where all they taught was abstract painting, I first made a living by digging carrots for a gang-master in winter, and doing quick-sketch pastel portraits in Butlins holiday camps in the summer. After a well-received oil portrait of Princess Anne, I put portraiture behind me to focus on landscapes. I now specialise in intimate aspects of landscape, and in scenes of London, especially of the Thames. I exhibit in London.”
